- While viewing x rays of a patient, a fellow doctor told me that an accident had occurred in Floriana and that a number of people were injured and therfore he told us to be prepared for a possible influx of patients . The information comming in from the pre-hospital emergency team was of a critical injured patient and 9 category 2/3 patients( category 2 or 3 being less seriously injured ) . Within seconds this information was changed to one critical injured patient and 9 seriously injured patients necessitating Area 1 handling. At an instant the Head Chairman of A&E popped in at Area 3 ,analysing the situation as it was and advising a number of doctors to shift to area 1 in readiness for the inflow. Everything was organised and ready in a matter of minutes. The inflow of ambulance was met with a regimental type of organisation ,each patient allocated his cubicle/stretcher with his own doctor and paramedical staff with the constant supervison of A&E consultants and orthopedic specialist . The whole affair lasting exactly 15 minutes with A&E returning to normality immediately after ( no coffee breaks ). I must also say well done to Floriana Health centre doctors ,they were impeccable in their immediate response and treatment of a number of other patients also involved in the accident . The coordination between Pre-hospital emergency personnel ,Floriana health centre staff and Central hospital emergency unit was outstanding . This shows the constant training and expertise our doctors have achieved in Emergency Situations .
